MARCH, APRIL MEET-UPs SUSPENDED
Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club and our M-36 Satellite Club's weekly IN-PERSON Meet-ups are suspended throughout April 2020. Look for info on how to log into a ZOOM meeting at 7:30 am. Sleep in an extra 30 minutes!

Club Leadership will continue to closely monitor RI, State and CDC recommendations for group meeting safety during this pandemic and keep you apprised of plans for April meetings as they develop.
LSRC President Jim Gilmore is encouraging all Rotarians to support their local non-profits who are serving those currently most in need on the front lines.  If you can lend a hand with food distribution please contact Livingston County United Way, Salvation Army, Bountiful Harvest, Gleaners, etc. and support your fellow Community Members, families & seniors most in need.

If you are healthy, and can donate blood., please make an appointment today for a future date by going to RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-448-3543. The nation is about 200,000 pints of blood short because the Coronavirus has shut down many venues, including high schools, universities and colleges that collect about 20% of the nation's blood supply. Not sure if you are eligible to donate blood. Call 1-866-236-3276 anytime 24/7 and ask.

Please take time to share what you are doing and let's show the Community how Rotary works in action during extreme times.  Post your story and some pictures on our FaceBook page! [Pictures. We need more PICTURES people. -jml]

Yours in Service,

Jim Gilmore, LSRC President
and LSRC Board of Directors

Topic: Sara Barnwell's Zoom Meeting (LSRC March 27 Meetup)
Time: Mar 27, 2020 07:30 AM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Join Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club Zoom Meeting

https://cleary.zoom.us/j/936547657

Meeting ID: 936 547 657
As with any regular meeting, it is open to members and visitors, so if you have someone you think can benefit, please forward this information to them so they can participate.

Of course, the meetup will be online through the ZOOM platform.

FROM JIM GILMORE, our illustrious LSRC President:

The ZOOM meetup itself will start at 7:45am, and for veteran ZOOM users, you get that extra 15 minutes of sleep. However, if it is your first time at this, our Host, Sara Barnwell, will have the meeting open at 7:30am. Hopefully we'll be able to get you up and fully functional so we can start on time.

HERE are some tips I found from another RI user of ZOOM; and following are a few of Sara's expert tips:

  • If you do not already have Zoom set up, you should be able to click on the first link above and join the meeting.  You must download the Zoom program if you don't already have it on your device. You will want to connect using your computer's audio (you can test the speakers/microphone first).  You will need to have working speakers or headset to hear the meeting.  If you have a webcam, you can turn video on!
  •
  • If you do have the Zoom app already set up on your computer, you should be able to go into that app and just enter the meeting ID (highlighted in yellow below).  The link may also take you right there but if that doesn't work, just enter the meeting ID.
  •
  • For those who are interested, you can use Zoom on mobile devices (iphones, anyways, probably others too).  There is a Zoom app to download and it works really well (I join a lot of Zoom meetings on my phone so I can pace around my house!)
  •
  • Once we are in the Zoom meeting, there are options along the bottom of the window (they do disappear when not used - move your mouse to have them reappear).  You have the option to start/stop video, mute/unmute yourself, open a chat window (feel free to use that if you have question), and others
And here are 2 tips from Jim Gilmore:

    1. Remember it is a video conference...put on a robe, and...
    2. Make sure you are muted when not speaking (our host Sara will help with this)...we don't want to hear you chewing your breakfast.

Thanks to Sara Barnwell and Cleary University for being our hosts!

    Greeters This Week
Do NOT Show up for Greeter Duty this Friday... unless you REALLY need to get out of the house! Join us online at the ZOOM meeting from the comfort of your own home using a tablet, phone, notebook computer. I think even ChromeBooks will work!

    Getting to know you...
One of the things that endeared me to Rotary and convinced me to join were the fun meetings run by Brenda "Woo-Woo" Tipton. Rule number one: Always have fun. If you're not having fun doing something, why bother?

I was almost an honorary Rotarian because of my role with the American Red Cross as a blood donor recruiter. I remember one time a member got up to the podium, selected from a list of about 20 questions and spent time answering them. It was fun, funny and insightful. So...here goes my attempt. Next week Donna Gehringer will nominate someone else!

    1. What is your name, and tell us about your family.
I am J. Michael Lenninger, but my first name is John, but since birth my parents always called me Mike or Michael. Kathy Partridge and I have been married for 27 years and we have three children in a co-mingled household with Nancy Partridge, a retired Brighton schoolteacher and Kathy's older sister.

    2.  Where are you from?
I was born in Orlando, Fla. but lived all over the state until we moved here in 2006. So I have lived in Winter Haven, Marathon in The Florida Keys, and Gainesville, home of the University of Florida ("GO GATORS").

    3. Where did you go to school?
See above, but I also attended Polk Community College and graduated from the UF College of Journalism and Communication with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism, majoring in public relations. Yes, I got a B.S. in how to do B.S.

    4. What do you do now?
I am the publisher of a private, local, targeted monthly magazine that is mailed to 22 of some of the finer subdivisions in the Brighton area. NEIGHBORS of Greater Brighton premiered in January 2018 and now reaches more than 3,000 households. We just added the Hidden Lake gated community in Green Oak Township.

    5. Any hobbies?
Just trying to keep my wife happy. Happy wife...happy life as the saying goes. I am an avid reader, so I like to soak up knowledge and useful information and share it on Facebook.

    6. What would you like your fellow Rotarians to know about you?
I've always been a joiner, going back to my junior year in high school when I joined four groups:  Key Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Drama Club. I have a tendency to overcommit and volunteer too much of my time, neglecting home life. (See answer to number 5 above.)

Just in Brighton I was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus, the Chambers of Commerce in Brighton, Hartland and Howell, a supporter of the Brighton Area Historical Society and volunteered with The Friends of the Brighton District Library as a board member.

    7. Anything else you'd like to share?
Nope. I wear my heart on my sleeve and my life is an open book!

    8. Why is your photo sideways?
Well, because no matter which way I rotated it using the software available, it appears upside down or sideways. Sorry!
