GETTING TO KNOW... JENNIFER TATE
Meet new Rotarian Jennifer Tate, director of the Livingston County DHHS

Where are you from? Grand Blanc, Michigan

What do you do professionally? Director, Livingston County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)

Where did you go to school? Graduated from Flint Northern High School, Ferris State University (Bachelor’s of Social Work), University of Michigan (Master’s of Public Affairs).

What is one of your super-talents or hidden super power?
My upbringing, educational and professional experiences have provided a sound  foundation for me to become a diverse leader within my agency. Additionally, this diversity has allowed me to make sound and informed decisions regarding neglected and abused children in any arena. I’m aspiring to be a lifelong advocate for children and families.

What’s your favorite book? Becoming by Michelle Obama

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
My son’s 12-and-under AAU Basketball team is ranked 9th in the nation.

What's one thing your mother/father taught you that completely changed your life?
Hard work pays off and remain self-motivated while trying to attain your goals. If you are willing to put in the work, you will succeed.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t half do anything. Put your all into everything that you do.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve given someone else?
We are all working towards the same goal regardless of our positions. Being a leader is not just having a title; great leaders have people who continue to find ways to motivate yourself to be great.

GETTING TO KNOW - JEFF STREET

Meet one of your fellow Rotarians, Jeff Street, who is Brighton High School's Ski Team coach, amongst other roles.

Where are you from?
Brighton

How are you coping during the COVID-19 Quarantine? What are you doing?
Lots of miles on my Kaiser spin bike.

What do you do professionally?
Vice President at Cislo Title Company  (Former owner of Land Title Agency)

What is your passion?
Coaching

You're a ski instructor and girls' LaCrosse coach? Tell us more!
I love coaching HS sports at the Varsity Level.  I have been involved in coaching at some level since 1986.  First as a Ski Instructor at Mt Brighton, then as a Basketball Coach for several years in Hartland and Brighton.  Around 2001 I got into boys Lacrosse and Ski Racing.

When my daughter started playing lacrosse in 2005 I was asked to coach girls LaX and have been involved with it every since. There is nothing as cool as helping to shape young people into being their best both on and off the field.

My motto:  FOCUS, BALANCE and INTEGRITY.  When kids leave my programs they all remember FBI - Focus in Sport and in Life / Balance both physical and in Life / Integrity, do the right thing always, never ever quit!

Personal life?
Spouse, Tenley, married for 35 years; Siblings, none; Children,  two kids, Derek 31 and Ashton 26.

Hobbies? Skiing, Mountain Biking, Surfing, Coaching

Pets? Aspen, a 16-year-old black cat

What is one of your super-powers or secret talents?
I can fix just about anything from cars to houses.

What’s your favorite book?
I read between 30,000-40,000 pages per year, so to nail down just one book is pretty tough.  My favorite writer would be New York Times No. 1 selling author Daniel Silva.  However, the Holy Bible would have to be #1!

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I have double jointed thumbs.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path."   Proverbs 3:5

If you could have one 'do over' in your life, what would you do differently?
Have more kids.  And not pursue a degree in pre-med.  Should have just gone for the Business Degree in the first place (that's a long story).

Of what are you most afraid?
That Gov. Whitmer won't open the economy soon enough to save our businesses.

If you suddenly won a million dollars and did not have to work, what would you do with all your free time?
I would become a college Women's Lacrosse Coach.
