There will be NO speaker, per se, this week. [Per Se is a legal term that means "it is what it is"] So don your gay apparel and be prepared to share your favorites (or funny) holiday memories!
Dear LSRC Members:
It's about a week out from Christmas and the hope of better things to come for the New Year! [It can't get much worse, can it? Shoot, I just jinxed 2021!] Without question, it has been a most "interesting" year. But even a pandemic can't halt the goodness in the heart of a Rotarian. I've seen that evidenced in so many of you. Thank you for continuing to serve, connect and be a light in our communities. You rock!
During this Friday's meeting we will be mixing things up a bit. In lieu of a speaker ["In lieu of" is a Latin means that means we didn't plan anything.] we will be sharing some of our favoriteholidaymemories. These can be from your childhood, with your own children and family or maybe a special holiday party or service project.
We're truly excited to hear your stories. So be thinking about that. ALSO, don your fun and favorite holidaywear! Ugly/fun sweaters, head gear, socks [be prepared to show 'em off!] holiday mug etc. are in order! You'll also have an opportunity to share your Happy Hollars during this time. George may have a few fines to throw at you as well.
We also will be presenting the GoldenRotyAward! I'm still taking nominations for that. Who's your hero, or someone you want to thank or give kudos to? Let me know why you're nominating that person. Sell me! They will not only receive the coveted Golden Roty Award, but a special gift chosen just for them!
It should be a fun and special time together. I hope you’ll ll join us! Heck, invite your friends [kids, dogs, cats, co-workers and neighbors] to the party!!! See you bright and early on Friday! --Pattie Courtney, LSRC President
Please send ME your pictures and stories about Rotarians in Action no later than Tuesday of every week!
Also, please send me any write-ups, blurbs, article ideas, minutes of meetings, etc. If all I have to do is edit the info, the more likely it will get published! --jml (810) 986-9320
ROTARIANS HELP DISTRIBUTE CHRISTMAS BLESSING BASKETS
Last week, a number of LSRC Club Members have assisted Livingston County Catholic Charities and delivered food and gifts to low-income and homebound senior citizens. Last year the project assisted more than 160 seniors. The Christmas Blessing Project will continue this year, though with some adjustments to maintain the safety of the volunteers and the recipients during this CoViD-19 pandemic.

What do you call those things on springs on Judy's head? Deely-bobbers?]
DONATE BLOOD on Wednesday JAN. 6th, 2021!
The revived annual Rotary Club Challenge Blood Drive will be held Wednesday, January 6th from 11 am to 4:45 pm at the Brighton Community Center.
Anyone of any age (16 and older) who weighs at least 110 pounds (certain restrictions apply for high-schoolers) and is in general good health, can give blood. It only takes about an hour of your time to help save up to three lives with one donation.
We need THREE volunteers help every two hours starting at 10:45 am to be temperature takers, registration desk workers, and to serve the juice and cookies. That is why you give blood, right, for the free juice and cookies?
Appointments are MANDATORY under CoViD-19 restrictions. Go to RedCrossBlood.org and use the Sponsor Code "BrightonRotary". We also will have double red machines (Power Reds) there for people who have blood types O-, O+ B- or A-. Remember: give Whole Blood every 3 months (or every 3,000 smiles!) Call 1-866-236-3276 to discuss whether you can or should not donate blood. Certain restrictions have been lifted!
SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGERS
So, how did LSRC do in relation to other Rotary Clubs in the area? The team to beat actually is the Kiwanis Club of Brighton, who raised $900+ outside JC Penney at the Green Oaks Village Place the first Saturday of December. They have been collecting cash for the Salvation Army continuously for the last 60 years!

[Connie Conklin and her pooch Gilly are pictured to the left and below.Using dogs, kids and playing musical instruments are all strategies to get more donations into the Salvation Army Red Kettle. Smart bell-ringers bring a ruler to tamp down the dollar bills protruding from the opening.]
As of December 15th, The Salvation Army has raised $149,562 which is 38% of their overall goal of $385,000. With only ONE WEEK remaining for bell ringing The Salvation Army is asking the community to help reach our goal.
“According to Data USA, if every person in the county donated only one dollar and twenty five cents to our Red Kettles we will reach our goal by Christmas” says April Dertian, Development Director “of course that number does include children,” laughs Dertian “However it shows how little each person can contribute and make a huge impact."
We’re thankful for donors like you, who make Doing Good in the World possible. Because of you, The Rotary Foundation has supported people of action around the globe who are improving lives through meaningful and sustainable projects.
Your gifts are more than donations, they provide people with the hope of peace, health, and opportunity to those in need. Your dedication to making a difference through service and your generous support of The Rotary Foundation make all these efforts possible.
What impact can one donation have? For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio. $50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness. $500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.
Thank you for all you do to create lasting change in your community and around the world.
