GREET in person @ L-E-S-A June 18th

Join us this Friday at the Livingston Educational Service Agency at 1425 West Grand River in Howell. Breakfast will NOT be served!  Contact Jerry Beamer at (810) 588-4651 with any suggestions for a caterer for our breakfast together..

Can we agree on how we pronounce the name of the building, please? Patty calls it LISA. Others have said LESS-uh. I prefer sounding it out by letters as in ELL-EEE-ESS-AYY or L-E-S-A. What do you prefer?  Socialization begins at 7:15 am. The meeting rings in at 7:30!

Weather should be WET.  Temps will be in the middle 60s. Bring your galoshes and an umbrella. Friday will be mostly cloudy with rain ending in the afternoon. High around 85F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 70%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.

Greeters should arrive no later than 7:15 AM and assist members with name badges, welcoming guests and identifying visiting Rotarians.

Greetings from beautiful Flori-bama!

I just finished an amazing lunch of grilled grouper, greens and salad. Preceded by a great tour of the USS Alabama battleship.in Mobile. Oh man!

Even though I'm partying Down South [NOT in Ohio] I will be with you all in spirit this Friday. A big thank you to Donna Gehringer for leading club's meeting.

Mike Lenninger [that's me!] will present Kaila DiNallo and Alisa Risner.  Kaila is the Regional Manager of Donor Recruitment for Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, formerly Michigan Blood.

REMINDER!  We will be presenting our final Golden Roty Award on the 25th. This is your last chance to thank someone in this special way. Taking nominations!

Don't forget about President’s Night!  July 1st, 6-9 p.m.  Free food, great laughs and some special awards. Bring a guest. But you must register online. Or E-mail Mike Murphy to reserve your spot.

WHAT IS VERSITI AND WHY YOU ARE IMPORTANT
by J. Michael Lenninger, BULLETIN Editor

Many of you know me as your former friendly neighborhood vampire when I worked for the American Red Cross Blood Services Division out of Lansing. I had all of Livingston County, working with more than 100 volunteer organizations, churches, schools and businesses. There was a Red Cross Blood drive just about every other day (and on weekends) in this area.

I got involved in Rotary because of that affiliation. I would present information about blood donation and help local clubs set up their own blood drives. I saw that Rotary was welcoming, friendly, and except for the pesky fine sherriff, just a great bunch of people. And they fed me!

Now, six years after parting company with the ARC (I was a UAW union member serving Southeastern Michigan Blood Region out of Detroit), I have come back to helping organize blood drives once again. [You can take the blood out of J. Michael but you can't take out the mission for saving lives.]

Meet Kaila and Alisa. Alisa and I worked together at the same time when I was in Lansing. In fact, she took over my territory here in Livingston County for a bit. Now Alisa Risner has Livingston County and a few other areas with Versiti Blood Centers of Michigan. She was hired by Kaila DiNallo, a remarkable leader. I  am proud to introduce you to Kaila and Alisa and let them tell you all about what Versiti does and how you can help. Shocking, I know, but there are at least six separate entities collecting blood in Michigan these days including the Red Cross.

Please give a gracious Rotary welcome to my guests and friends! [That's Kaila on the left above and Alisa on the right.]

GIVE BLOOD, SAVE LIVES in BRIGHTON JUNE 30th
There still is a critical shortage of all types of blood across the USA, but especially in types O-, A-, O+ and B-.  You should schedule a whole blood donation about every 3 months, or 3,000 miles, especially during the summer and around major holidays. Double Red Donors can give up to 4x a year.
Versiti has schedules another Community Blood Drive for Rotarians and their friends and family on Wednesday, June 30th at the Brighton Light House, 142 Brighton Lake Road, just off Grand River, 12:30 - 7 pm. Free Summer of Peace T-shirts!
Or text/call J. Michael Lenninger at (810) 986-9320

So if you plan on attending, please let me know, and I will put ya on the guest list :-) Respond with how many also; ie,  you and your spouse, you and your significant other, just don't invite both, that could be a bit awkward LOL

Cheers,
Murph

QUACK-QUACK.  HUNGRY DUCKS ON THE RUN JULY 4th

It MUST be the annual Hungry Duck Run. And this is Mike Murphy's Swan Song. He ain't gonna do it no more, no more.

Ladies and Gents,

As Jamie Nicholson and Pattie Courtney have reported, we own the day and we need help with the run. [When IS the Fourth of July? I hear it's on a Sunday.] No excuses this year, 'cause we are not selling raffle tickets. Here is what we need: The race starts at 7am sharp and will be totally over by 10:30, but the majority is over by 9.

Packet Pick up: We need to "man" this. Running Lab [Note their new location in Downtown Brighton.] will have these ready a few days ahead of the event, so probably Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There will be set times. I will tell you what they are once they are established. Easy job, shoot the bull with people, give them their bib and a T-shirt.

Water Stations: There are 4 water stations that need to be "manned". TWO people per station. Time needed is  6:30 - 10:30. Some stations will finish sooner [Hint-Hint, sign up for the first station!]

Day of Registration: We need 4 or 5 people to grab any last-minute registrants and take their money. Time needed: 6am to 7am [Hint-Hint-Hint: A one-hour time commitment!]

Food: I would love it if someone stepped up to take this team lead position on and get some folks to help. [And the winner is... Mary Durst!] I  need this off my plate.

Set up / Tear down: This refers to the course signage and water stations. A. couple people would be helpful for this

Flag People: Even with the best signage, we still get people that get confused, so 3 people (one at each intersection) as they get back in town to point them in the right direction would be great.

Medals and Awards: 2 people to hand out medals and awards at the end.

National Anthem: If someone knows of a singer and could bring a flag that would be great. We can use the PA on one of the emergency vehicles.

After it is all done, Tom (Archer) has agreed to let us crash his house and go for a dip in the pool, and east some of his world-famous pulled pork. Please let Tom know if you plan on attending the after party, so he knows how many to expect.

That is all! If any of these suit your fancy, let me know and I will put ya on the spreadsheet :-)

A New Porch for Emily!
A NEW PORCH FOR EMILY in PINCKNEY
Members of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club joined with Howell and Brighton Rotary for service above self with Habitat for Humanity. Thursday, May 21st, 2021 found club members hard at work in Pinckney from 10am - 4pm in demolition, re-build, maintenance, cleaning, gardening and more. With the blessing of the homeowner, we  were able to put in a new front porch, get a panel of fencing up for privacy, tackle some serious gardening and clean up the patio. It was a productive day giving time & talent to those in need.
