UKRAINIAN RELIEF
Hello Fellow Rotarians!
Last week during our meeting I briefly outlined our Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation’s Fundraiser to provide direct assistance to Rotary Clubs in Poland, Moldova, Romania and in Ukraine that are providing assistance to the Ukrainian Refugees that have been displaced by the military attacks on their country.
Our donations will go to Rotary International and will then be disbursed to the Rotary Clubs in those countries to support their aid to the Ukrainians with housing, clothing, food, bedding, medical, diapers, baby formula etc. None of these donations will be routed thru any government agencies so 100% of our money will go to those Rotary Clubs with boots on the ground giving the assistance.
If you have questions about the various efforts by these European Rotary Clubs and what they are doing, please contact Donna Gehringer as she has been following their efforts closely thru Rotary International. Call (517) 294-2177
Our Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation voted last week to provide up to a $7,000.00 triple money match for every dollar donated by Club Members. A $25.00 donation turns into a $75.00 donation, a $100.00 donation turns into $300.00! The bottom line is if our membership steps up and donated $3,500.00 we can exhaust the full $7,000.00 Foundation commitment (that is a $100.00 per member Foundation Commitment) and we can send a check to aid these refugees for $10,500.00. Pretty amazing for a small-town Rotary Club like ours!
We will be collecting for the next couple of weeks and will send reminders along with an update on our efforts. Cash or checks are acceptable. Please give your donation to Foundation Board Member Donna Gehringer or Foundation Treasurer Jenny Nash!
BrendaK Tipton is a past-president of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club and is the current Governor of Rotary District 6380. Her reign... uh, rule... er...TERM ends June 30th. We thought we would ask her some of the questions you might ask. This will be a multi-part article over the next few weeks.
10. If you had a magic wand and you could wave it around and change one thing about Rotary, what would that be? I would stop the insanity of having 1.2 million members for the past 10 years like I did during my year as President of Sunrise Rotary. On a large scale I believe I know how we can change that number in driving more focus on the reconciliation of our Rotary Online Tools and club data.
I am a corporate kind of girl by trait and one where I see an issue and/or problem I like to solve it. I truly believe the simple issue to resolving our membership number insanity is to resolve our reporting through online club reporting tools. I have recently approached Rotary International's first woman incoming President Jennifer Jones on implementing and leading a RI Task force that I think can really change the numbers of Rotary membership. So we will see what happens I am truly tired of hearing we have 1.2 million members over the last 10+ years aren’t you?
BRENDA TIPTON'S INSIDE SCOOP
This month Rotary celebrates our youth and their amazing accomplishments. During Youth Service Month, please take the time to showcase your sponsored Rotaract and Interact clubs and their projects. Invite them to a meeting so that they can share their activities with your members and make sure to support their projects by your attendance and contributions! These young people are the future of Rotary and the future of the world.
This year my focus has been to Engage, Excite and Have Fun and our upcoming conference focus will be no different. Rotarians, you have worked hard this year to be innovative and have adapted well during this prolonged pandemic while leading with an emphasis on Serving to Change Lives.

Lorie Belcher was inducted into the club last Friday. This is her story.
It was once said by Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”. When I think of Rotary and what it means to me and why I wanted to become a part of it I think of the influence one can have in their community working with other like-minded, motivated, and kind, caring individuals as a team.
I have always been the type of person to seek out ways to serve others, lend a hand, volunteer my time, and just be involved for the betterment of myself and others. I feel being involved in such organizations like Rotary shows leadership and good citizenship. It gives me a sense of added value. Why did I want to be a Rotarian?
To start with I am a social person; I love to interact with others and learn about their stories. Secondly, I have raised two awesome kids that are now living on their own. I have a job that I love and I find that I have many, many blessings in my life. I have the time and the desire to use my “extra” time in serving my community. Lastly, I want to give back to my community and participate in the growth of where I live.
When my kids were in elementary school I absolutely enjoyed the time I spent as part of the PTO. I was also that mom that spared the time to be “team mom” of their recreational sports teams. It kept me involved with the school/sport, the teachers/coaches, and other students/athletes and I loved the influence I was showing my kids. The importance of bettering yourself while helping others is a great feeling. I created fantastic friendships through those involvements.
The time I spent volunteering and being actively involved actually helped me in my small business as well. I genuinely did not even realize the connections I was creating over the years that eventually led me to potential clients with my photography business. To sum it up, I want to be a Rotarian to help me become more involved in servicing the community I live in, help with local projects, network with other members, contribute in fundraising efforts, create leadership skills, and just grow as an individual. I believe working with this group of Rotarians will continue to inspire me to do more for others.
You can enjoy a meal with local Rotarians every day of the week:
Monday - Lunch - Howellat Howell Board of Education Room at the Administration Building (on Highlander Way)
Tuesday - Lunch - Brightonat the Brighton Community Building (aka the Boy Scout Building)

Thursday - Breakfast - Hartland Rotary Club, at the Hartland Insurance Agency (Old US 23, just north of M 59).
