Team Rotary GO! Swim to the Moon
Team Rotary GO!  Swim to the Moon
🏊🏻‍♀️LSRC Members Peggy & Jamie joined friends on Sunday, Aug. 15th for the 11th annual 🌙 SWIM TO THE MOON event in Half Moon Lake at the Pinckney Recreation Area. These committed Rotarians pushed their arms and legs in the water for more than 1.2 miles to raise funds for North Star Ranch, a Livingston County nonprofit offering life-changing camp experiences for children with serious health challenges.

Team Rotary GO!... [When I say TEAM ROTARY, you say ????] ACTIVELY raising funds and awareness for local charities.
say YES to adventure!
BITS 'N' PIECES - News you can Use
This will be all the non-feature, interesting and easily digestible tidbits of information. So... whatcha got to contribute, LSRC Members? Prayers, please, for our members who are ill and unable to attend our meetings.

EVERY BODY BRING SOMEBODY TO ROTARY

August is Membership Month which means it's time to invite others to the world of Rotary and to celebrate your Rotary club, your members and the good you each do in your community and around the world.

There are many ways to join in the celebration but to get you started... Say it loud, say it proud,  “I am proud to be a Rotarian!" - "WooWoo"!!

Supporting our RI President’s and our District’s “Each One Bring One” Campaign, I recently invited others to engage in the wonderful fellowship of Rotary and today my home club has a new Rotary member who is being inducted in two weeks!  You can do this too; it is really easy, Just Ask.  So, I'm asking you each to support our “Each One Bring One” District Campaign by inviting someone to join you
at an upcoming meet or event.  This simple invite can change their life as well as yours.

As you may know, I'm always up for a good celebration and what a wonderful one we had at the Meet Governor “WooWoo” evening on July 22, 2021!  This was the first “in person” event that our District has been able to hold since March 2019 when our PETS training was cut short due to what we now refer to as the Year of the Pandemic.  On July 22, I was so happy to meet and greet all who attended and to re-ignite our Rotary fellowships. It was disappointing, of course, that the Canadian branch of our Rotary family was unable to attend but I look forward to an additional “Meet the Governor” Canadian style celebration once the borders reopen.  I invite you to join me for that celebration as well.  Stay tuned for details.

I hope you're enjoying our District social media campaign on the District Facebook page!  We've been focusing on "Getting to Know" your District Team.  If you haven't yet joined our group page, please make sure that you do to keep updated on Club and District events.  It's a great way to stay connected!  Rotary Facebook Group

Hungry Duck Run 2021- A Debrief
Hungry Duck Run 2021- A Debrief
LSRC running fans met up at the Brighton Coffeehouse and Theatre (BCAT) with Brighton Area Fire Authority, Running Lab and Kensington Valley Crossfit to DEBRIEF on all things Hungry Duck Run last month.  A guest "appearance" was made by LSRC Honorary Member, Jim Lawrence, [all the way from Wild Rose, WISCONSIN!] who chimed in on the HISTORY of the event, now 15 years strong.  Good reports, great people and plans for next year are... IN MOTION.  [Give Jim Lawrence some love by clicking on his name above and sending him a warm message. We miss you!]

ROTARIANS in ACTION August 13, 2021
SERVICE ABOVE SELF
Who Will Step Up?
Hello everyone! This past week I spoke to Steve Gronow and he shared some information with me about a single mother in need of some pretty simple help.

This single young mom has stage 4 cancer. Her mom and her have been collecting pop cans to try and help with her out-of-control medical expenses.

The opportunity consists of the following:
  • Pick up a trailer from her house in Hartland, I have the address
  • Take the trailer to her mom's house in Howell, I have the address
  • Load up the cans which are already in large bags into the trailer
  • Take the deposit cans to the store, Meijer is right around the corner from the house
  • Put the cans in the recycling machines
  • Take the return tickets back to her with the trailer
  • There are about 300.00 in cans so the more people that can coordinate to do this the better to avoid multiple trips due to limits at the recycling machines.
Simple as that! [At presstime, Mary St. Pierre, Dan Bain and Kate Lawrence have stepped up to coordinate this.]

Who wants to step up? Click on the link below my signature and email me.

GO SHOOTING with the SHERIFF

Our industrious Sheriff, Mike Murphy, invites you to go shooting with him. [NOT take a shot at him!]

On Thursday September 2, 2021 at 1pm is registration for the Hartland Rotary Clay Shoot.

Two things.

1) We need to put a team together. I, Mike Murphy, will sponsor a team. I just the names of 4 other shooters. So reply to me, first come first served

2) We need our club members to sponsor the shooters. A good round sponsorship number would be $20. Your Sponsorship dollars will go toward our club's effort to raise money for polio day in October.

If you want to set up another team or want to sponsor more than just a shooter, see the attached flyer in your August 13th email for additional info.

HELP KEEP OUR RIVERS CLEAN
As your District Governor or rather your CEO "Chief Encouragement Officer" for the 2021-2022 year I want to encouraged all clubs to review and consider planning a river cleanup event. It's part of the big RI Environmental Initiative.

World Rivers Day, September 26, 2021

This event is a global celebration of the world's waterways, observed every last Sunday in September.

Rivers in every country face an array of threats, and World Rivers Day promotes the active involvement of citizens to ensure the health of rivers in the years ahead.

Chatham Sunrise Rotary in Canada is already planning a cleanup event for their McGregor Creek .

Your club can learn more about the program at cleanwaterforliving.com and consider joining the efforts of the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG)

WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
Saturday Oct. 2 in BRIGHTON

   Howell and Livingston Sunrise Rotarians:

We've all known someone, a family member or friend, that has been touched in some way by Alzheimer's. The Walk to End Alzheimer's, is a national effort to raise funds for     research and awareness for the disease, along with support for families and care givers directly affected by it.

As we did last year, the Howell and Livingston Sunrise Rotary Clubs are teaming up to do our share in battling this dreaded disease. Last year, I'm extremely proud to report that we raised more than $4,000. Once again, the Howell Rotary Club is making a donation of $500 toward the effort. [Do I hear a challenge Sunrise Rotarians?]

This year's Walk to End Alzheimer's will be on Saturday, October 2, and be centered in Brighton. I understand that walks can also take place anywhere in Livingston County.  We can decide later whether to meet in Brighton, Howell or some other location for our Walk To End Alzheimer's.

To register, our team page is located at http://act.alz.org/goto/HowellSunriseRotary.  I hope you'll be able to register and participate.  Any level of contribution will go far in combatting Alzheimer's!!

Kind Regards,
Nick
