MEET in person @ L-E-S-A June 11th

Join us this Friday at the Livingston Educational Service Agency at 1425 West Grand River in Howell. Breakfast will NOT be served!  Contact Jerry Beamer at (810) 588-4651 with any suggestions. Budget? Well, it's our dues. How fancy do you want it to be? I've nominated HickoryBBQ.net & Grill, winner of WDIV's Best Caterer in 2020.

Can we agree on how we pronounce the name of the building, please? Patty calls it LISA. Others have said LESS-uh. I prefer sounding it out by letters as in ELL-EEE-ESS-AYY or L-E-S-A. What do you prefer?  Socialization begins at 7:15 am. The meeting rings in at 7:30!

Weather should be mild when you arrive, in the lower 60s with light winds and only a 3% chance of rain. The rest of the day will be sunny and beautiful with highs no more than 85 degrees F. Dress accordingly.

Greeters should arrive no later than 7:15 AM and assist members with name badges, welcoming guests and identifying visiting Rotarians.

A MESSAGE FROM PATTIE COURTNEY

Greetings LSRC Family and friends!

I'm very happy to say that our mornings at the Jailhouse Garage are over but we are so grateful to Sheriff Mike Murphy for allowing us this space to meet over the last few weeks and last fall.

This Friday we will be moving to our new permanent venue and home at Livingston Educational Service Agency (LESA).  This is a beautiful facility and I'm thrilled it is being made available to us! It sits pretty much between our old space at the Bennett Center and the Jailhouse Garage on the same side of the road. A large sign is visible out front.  The address is 1425 WGrand River Rd., Howell.  Please park in back and enter the building from the rear/main entrance (Door #1).  After entering the building, our meeting room will be on the immediate right.

No Breakfast yet!  (There will be coffee and water available though)  Unfortunately, we have not been able to recruit a caterer for our breakfasts yet. The search continues and we are open to any suggestions.  Please contact me or Jerry Beamer with any ideas.
I'm honored to say that we will be inducting our two newest members, DrMike Hubert and Carrie Newstead this Friday. Join us in extending the warm hand of fellowship to them. We will also be recognizing all of our 2020-21 new members with the traditional greeting.

Our speaker this week is brought to us by member Mark RobinsonEileen Zilch is the Director of Community Catalysts - She will be "Defining the need for Attainable Housing in Livingston County." Looking forward to hearing your talk,  Eileen!

We are still building the pot for President’s Night, so come prepared.  [What, no 50/50? Bring your Happy Dollars for the Fine Sheriff.] We're so close!

Obviously, if you are more comfortable still wearing a mask during our time together, please feel free to do so.  But we are no longer requiring it since so many have been vaccinated.

I think that's it.  See you at our new digs!
Pattie Courtney
Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club
President 2020-21

NO ZOOM CALL THIS FRIDAY! OR EVER (hopefully)

Eileen Zilch
As the Executive Director and President of Community Catalysts, Eileen Zilch brings over 30 years of Corporate, Consulting, and Non-Profit leadership to the team.  With an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, Eileen started her career at Ford Motor Company.

During her 11 years at Ford, Eileen served in several leadership positions including, Finance Manager in Car Product Development, Plant Controller, and Director of Foreign Exchange Strategy in the Treasury.  Eileen moved into finance and marketing consulting for a decade and then into the Non-Profit sector.

As a Director at SpringHill Camps for 10 years, Eileen worked in both operational and support leadership roles.  Her roles at SpringHill included Marketing Director, Regional Day Camp Director, and Central Services Director.  Eileen's signature leadership style is creating high-performing teams and taking something good and making it great.
Eileen brings strong leadership skills, a diverse business background with both for-profit and non-profit organizations, and a get-it-done attitude to her role at Community Catalysts.
Eileen has four children and lives in Howell.  When she isn't working, you can find her at her son's sporting events, at the beach, hiking, traveling, decorating, learning and teaching, watercolor painting, or laughing with family and friends.

Community Catalysts supports seniors, veterans, homeless and other low income people by funding and developing quality affordable housing and services.  Our goal is to be the catalyst - to get a stalled project started, to fill a gap to keep a project going, to fund a project that others may not be willing to fund, or work with a developer/partner in a way that others will not.

We are a small, nimble team and are able to move quickly to get a project approved.  We care about the people and communities that our projects serve.  We strive to serve more people in Michigan and throughout the Midwest through our collaborative partnerships.  Contact us to discuss your project and how we might be able to serve you.

Mission:

We serve as a catalyst to our partners, and together we empower seniors, veterans, homeless and other low income people through quality affordable housing and services.

Core Values:

  • Collaboration with other community development efforts

  • Innovation in design and concepts

  • Integrity

  • Respect for the individual and the dignity of all people

DO NOT MISS PRESIDENT'S NIGHT @ TAMARACK JULY FIRST
Please, please, please register on our website and bring a guest. Murph says to dress tropical, like your would for MIDNIGHT IN THE TROPICS 2022.

Ladies and Gents,

Please join with your fellow Rotarians in celebrating Patty's most unusual year ever as President of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club
When: Thursday July 1, 2021. 6p - 9p
Where: Camp Tamarack, 405 N Old US 23 Brighton, MI 48114 (Just south of Bergin Rd on the west side)
Why: Cause it's time to be social again!

Because we had to cancel MITT, dress attire will be tropical. As always, food and drink provided.

I am not a computer guy, so please consider this as a request for registration as well. Gotta make sure we have enough food and drink.

So if you plan on attending, please let me know, and I will put ya on the guest list :-) Respond with how many also; ie,  you and your spouse, you and your significant other, just don't invite both, that could be a bit awkward LOL

Cheers,
Murph

IF IT WALKS LIKE A DUCK AND RUNS LIKE A DUCK...

Then it MUST be the annual Hungry Duck Run.

Ladies and Gents,

As Jamie mentioned last week, we own the day and we need help with the run. [When IS the Fourth of July? I hear it's on a Sunday.] No excuses this year, 'cause we are not selling raffle tickets. Here is what we need: The race starts at 7. will be totally over by 10:30, but the majority is over by 9.

Packet Pick up: We need to "man" this. Running Lab will have these ready a few days ahead of the event, so probably Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There will be set times. I will tell you what they are once they are established. Easy job, shoot the bull with people, give them their bib and a shirt

Water Stations: There are 4 water stations that need to be "manned". 2 people per station. Time needed 6:30 - 10:30. Some stations will finish sooner

Day of Registration: 4 or 5 people to grab any last minute registrants and take their money. Time needed 6am to 7am

Food: I would love it if someone stepped up to take this on and get some folks to help. I  need this off my plate. If you view the attached doc and look under food you will see what is needed. Costco / Kroger and Meijer have been pretty generous in the past

Set up / Tear down: This refers to the course signage and water stations. A.
couple people would be helpful for this

Flag People: Even with the best signage, we still get people that get confused, so 3 people (one at each intersection) as they get back in town to point them in the right direction would be great.

Medals and Awards: 2 people to hand out medals and awards at the end.
National Anthem: If someone knows of a singer and could bring a flag that would be great. We can use the PA on one of the emergency vehicles

After it is all done, Tom (Archer) has agreed to let us crash his house and go for a dip in the pool, and east some of his world famous pulled pork. Please let Tom know if you plan on attending the after party, so he knows how many to expect.

That is all I can think of for now. If any of these suit your fancy, let me know and I will put ya on the spreadsheet :-)

MEET THE NEW GOVERNOR JULY 22nd
No, she's not replacing Gretchen Whitmer [you wish], but our own Brenda K. "Woo-Woo"  Tipton as we welcome her as our Michigan Rotary Governor. Meet The Governor Picnic and Celebration.  A fun opportunity to celebrate our incoming District 6380 Governor, Brenda K "WooWoo" Tipton, as she begins her year!

This family-oriented event from 3-10pm will offer all sorts of games, great food, friendship, fundraisers and more. We'll gather outside at a camp that borders the Brighton Recreational Area in Brighton, Michigan. Very casual attire is requested and come to have fun! Bring bug spray. More details plus directions to the site will follow.

OH GIVE ME LAND, LOTS OF LAND
Join Jim Watters and the extended Rotary Family any Saturday morning at 9 o'clock (or earlier!) to help plant, weed and feed!  On the SW corner of Brighton NC Machine at 7300 Whitmore Lake Rd, Brighton, MI 48116.

Now that the threat of FROST has passed [Or has it? Let me check the Farmer's Almanac. Yeah, we're safe!] Plant some delicious peppers, corn, tomatoes, onions, garlic, leeks, cabbage and our favorite, asparagus. [Please no zucchini. We have way too much zucchini every year. The kids won't eat it even if you grind it up into the brownie mix. "Mom, what's this green stuff in my brownie?!"]
All Gleaners asks is that you donate 10% of your harvest to the fresh produce food bank.

If you are NOT getting the bulletin, or would like to add someone to our email list, please let the editor know!~

A New Porch for Emily!
A NEW PORCH FOR EMILY in PINCKNEY
Members of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club joined with Howell and Brighton Rotary for service above self with Habitat for Humanity. Thursday, May 21st, 2021 found club members hard at work in Pinckney from 10am - 4pm in demolition, re-build, maintenance, cleaning, gardening and more. With the blessing of the homeowner, we  were able to put in a new front porch, get a panel of fencing up for privacy, tackle some serious gardening and clean up the patio. It was a productive day giving time & talent to those in need.
