This is our last meeting before 2022. Let's make it a good one!

Socialization begins about 7:15 am
The meeting rings in promptly at 7:30. Please help set up and help tear down. Bring someone to breakfast as a guest. Pay Madam Treasurer only $5. Do NOT pass Go, do NOT collect $150. Late? Cough up a buck to the Fine Sheriff.

BRING at least $5 for the 50/50 DRAWING.  (The POT is at $660 and growing... there are about 15 cards left.)  Exact change is appreciated! If you buy one set of tickets, the odds are about 1 in 15 your number will be called.

But buy TWO sets of tickets, the odds drop to a 1 in 7 chance! You have a good chance of picking the Ace of Hearts - a one in 15 chance this week. Play strategically! Will it come down to the last card again?

ZOOM - ZOOM !
If you cannot make it to a meeting in person, please join us via ZOOM and keep your VIDEO camera on so we can see your smiling face!
If you do show up, remember the CDC has recommended that EVERYONE wear a mask INDOORS, even if you have had all your shots.  Masks are NOT required by Rotary Club members and their guests.

MITT MEETS RIGHT AFTER MEETING THIS FRIDAY
Everyone involved in Midnight in the Tropics (and that SHOULD be EVERY club member) should meet from 8:30 - 9:30 immediately after the regular meeting to help plan for our annual fund-raiser in March. This means you!  If you have not accepted an assignment, one will be provided for you. Choose... or be chosen. That is all...

🤩 Jamie NICHOLSON's WEEKLY WORD 🤩
Annual Club Goals- my.Rotary.org
One of the BIG DEALS for our club is earning the esteemed PRESIDENTIAL CITATION from Rotary International. There are 25 goals to choose from on my.Rotary.org. Every year, each club president selects at least 13 to accomplish. The goal mentioned MOST OFTEN this year is the one for MEMBERSHIP.  During the 2021 Rotary Presidents Training (P.E.T.S.), the charge was given to incoming presidents: Each One Bring One. At that moment, President Jamie looked at the membership number for LSRC: 72. Do the math, and we get 144. Nice! [And Madam President used to be a math teacher, so she should know.]

ROTARY FAMILY LUNCH - WEDNESDAY in BRIGHTON
Rotarians,

Get to know your fellow Rotarians better. Join us this coming WEDNESDAY in Brighton for stimulating conversation, tidbits of inside information, good food [and drink, but who's judging? There are 72 craft beer taps y'all.] fun and fellowship outside of our regular Friday meetings.  It's at Jameson's Irish Pub & Grill in Downtown Brighton.  Shall we meet the week of Christmas and the week before New Year's Day?

Click on the link here to read their menu and be prepared to order promptly at NOON!  [Double check the calendar to see if we are meeting in the next two weeks. I don't see why not...]

Invite  your extended Rotary Family [aka spouses], friends or co-workers. This also is a great way to introduce them to our club and what makes LSRC so special! There simply isn't enough time at our weekly meetings to get to know one another better. SO, EACH ONE BRING ONE.

Warmest regards,
Tom Archer

TIPTON'S INSIDE SCOOP
December is Rotary International Disease Prevention and Treatment month.  This Area of Focus is familiar to most of us because of the numerous projects supported by clubs and the Rotary Foundation throughout the world.  I urge you all to define your role in promoting improved health at home, in your communities and abroad in addition to supporting those vital programs that contribute to healthy communities and peaceful communities.

Rotary's top priority is the eradication of polio, but Rotarians take on far greater responsibilities to fight disease. They set up health camps and training facilities in undeveloped countries and in communities struggling with afflictions such as HIV/AIDS and malaria. Rotarians also design and build the infrastructure for doctors, nurses, governments, and partner to reach the one in six people in the world who can't afford to pay for health care.

How can you help?  Please support the health education programs that explain how diseases are spread, promote ways to reduce the risk of transmission, and support immunization campaigns against infectious diseases.  As incoming Rotary International President Elect Jennifer Jones recently noted during our Foundation + Membership Event, “We are a group of folks who immunize and get immunized.”

December also is the midpoint in our Rotary year and the end to an exhausting 2021.  We all continue to feel the impact of COVID.  My heartfelt sympathies go out to those who have experienced loss or hardship during this difficult period.  Despite this year's limitations, I am inspired by the opportunities we’ve found. Clubs have discovered new and innovative ways to fundraise and community activities to help them stay engaged, relevant and impactful.  Most clubs are moving back to much welcomed in-person meets by implementing protocols to keep everyone safe.  Thank you all for making a positive difference in our communities and around the world - especially at a time when it is most needed.

Lastly, we had an amazing November raising awareness for our Rotary Foundation.  Thank you to all who donated and participated in the main events throughout the District.   With the holiday season upon us, I, like you, am looking forward to enjoying quality time with my family and friends.  I am grateful for all that our Rotary family is doing to help others during this season in our communities and around the world.

Wishing all a very Happy and Safe Holiday Season -Woo Woo!!

ROTARIANS in ACTION for DECEMBER
GLEANERS' CUPBOARDS ARE BARE of TOILETRIES

Gleaners needs us to help restock the personal care items they give to needy people and families. Tucked away in your bathroom closet, you must have some sample sizes of deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream, little bars of soap, hand cream, shaving cream... you know, the stuff you'd pick up at hotels when you used to travel PRE CoViD-19. I don't know about you, but since I bought a Sonic toothbrush, I've been accumulating a ton free toothbrushes from my dentist for the last 10 years. Bring those!

If YOUR cupboard is bare, you also can pick up some sample sizes at your local grocery store, Meijers, CVS or Walgreens.

Bring them to Friday's meeting and Terry Defina will collect them and give them to Gleaners.

COLLECTING TOYS & SNACK FOR L-E-S-A KIDS

Remember to bring this FRIDAY DECEMBER 17th some unwrapped toys, games, gifts and snacks for the children of Livingston Educational Service Agency, the host for our weekly meetings. Look at the pile of goodies we already donated!

Members are invited to bring an unwrapped gift to the Club Meeting this week. We recommend board games and books that are non-gender specific.  The LESA staff will share these with some of their students whose family may be experiencing financial struggle.

Team Give A Hoot says THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to this effort, along with all of the other wonderful items and actions that members have shared as part of the holiday season.  The variety of sharing has been tremendous.  --Mark Robinson

BRING PRESENTS TO LSRC MEETINGS 12/17

Hello LSRC Members:

At our meeting this past Friday, we briefly mentioned supporting some of the students and families served by LESA as a part of the current Christmas season.  LESA has been a wonderful host for us and this is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our gratitude.

Team Give A Hoot is asking members to bring new, unwrapped, books and board games to our meetings this week, on the 10th, or next week, on the 17th.  The suggestion is to brings items that are not gender specific, thus providing the LESA coworkers maximum flexibility to share with the children and families having financial struggle.

Thank you to everyone able to support this effort.

Holiday Blessings to All,

Mark

The first Saturday in December is reserved for the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club to volunteer for the Salvation Army to collect money at their red kettle outside Kroger in Howell. Smart move. The earlier in December you work, the better the weather!
