Join us for tasty BREAKFAST treats, POSITIVE energy and HEARTS of service! Club business starts promptly at 7:30 am, with pledges, announcements, Fine Sheriff duties and HAPPY DOLLARS. A weekly talk ENRICHING our lives takes us to 8:30am.
In a previous Bulletin, we learned about the first "Jump Start Initiative" that you identified as most important to you during our recent visioning sessions. The new Service Committee will help us expand opportunities to work together in service to others - something we love to do!
The second "Jump Start Initiative" is equally exciting - a Social Committee to expand outings and social events that will provide a variety of chances to enjoy each other and have some fun! This Committee already has a lot of ideas percolating. If this sounds fun, or you like to have fun, or you want to have more fun in your life - this Committee is for you! [It's the FUN Committee! Which should be rule number one of the five-way test; is it fun to all concerned?] Reach out to Mike Murphy, mmurphy@livgov.com.
Check out future bulletins for information on our other "Jump Start Initiatives". There are so many ways to get involved and make a difference in your Club!

We no longer are meeting via ZOOM so you must come in person. Or have someone do a Facebook Live meeting for you.
.Nobody selected Ace of Hearts to win the 50/50, so the pot is about $340 this week! Right Madam Treasurer? Bring your money; exact change is appreciated! $5 for three tickets or $2 each.
Our very own Dr. Janet Burns pointed out that there is a major article about the Guatemala Literacy Project in this month's ROTARIAN monthly magazine. I am going to have to dig it out from my foot-high stack of reading material. Janet Burns has been our club's liaison for this wonderful project and has visited Guatemala more than a few times. Ask her about it and how our Foundation has supported this charity.
Rhonda Callahan from The Torch and Torch 180 has sent some information regarding their FUN event coming up on October 1st!
The Torch is a previous MITT beneficiary and they are running on cylinders! This amazing duo organization is making a difference in the lives of the participants and the community.
Please see the following sites as well as the descriptive attachment Rhonda's shared.
Come celebrate 25 years of Reaching Higher and 25 years of helping kids be the best they can be! I know this year's gala is going to be even more fun and more special than our normal yearly event, and I sure hope to see some of my LSRC friends there for this special evening. Mark your calendars for the evening of Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Westin Book Cadillac building in Downtown Detroit.
Please pass this on to anyone you know who might be interested in attending and/or anyone who might be able to sponsor.
ROTARY FAMILY LUNCH - TUESDAYS in September in HOWELL at CORATTI'S!
Meet with your fellow Rotarians and their family and friends in Downtown Howell at Coratti's. Park out back or in front of the restaurant.
Invite your extended Rotary Family [aka spouses], friends or co-workers. Or a member you haven't seen lately! This is one of the things that makes LSRC so special! SO, EACH ONE BRING ONE.
Many thanks to all who participated in our visioning and planning sessions over the last couple of months. Your time, efforts, and great ideas into longer term planning will help Livingston Sunrise be its best - making a real difference in the community. And your voices help set the agenda for this year as four initiatives rose to the top as being most important to you.
One of these "Jump Start Initiatives" is a Service Committee to help the Community Service Director engage Club members in meaningful service. This Committee will be exploring ways to broaden opportunities that may include family-centered volunteerism, regional and international projects, Club projects, etc., and recruit volunteers to fill the needs.
If this exciting opportunity to serve your Club is calling you, please reach out to John Scotta, jscotta@cobbhall.com.
Be sure to check future bulletins for information on our other "Jump Start Initiatives". This is going to be a great year!

THE LSRC LITERACY COMMITTEE HONORS WIC
On August 30, 2022, the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club Literacy Committee awarded the "Literacy Star Award" to Women, Infants & Children (WIC) in Livingston County, in recognition of the organization's outstanding promotion of literacy in our community.
From left to right in the picture are Stephanie Keys, Janet Slavin, Jaylin Brophy, Jennifer Kaiser, and Julie Young.
WHY DID YOU JOIN ROTARY?
What drives our members to join Rotary and as importantly, to stay in Rotary? Rotary founder Paul Harris told members in an address at a Rotary Convention in 1922 “The motive power of Rotary is friendship.”
According to a recent Rotary International survey, Friendship and Fellowship are big factors for members to join and stay in Rotary, but so is Passion for CommunityService and Projects.
The survey also noted that, 82% of new members found their clubs through friends, colleagues, and other members. This highlights how important it is for Rotarians to talk about Rotary to their social circle! Rotarians in general are humble, workers wanting to make the world a better place but find it difficult to talk about themselves and the impact they are making in their communities.
To make it easier to talk about Rotary, think about jotting a few notes for yourself:
What do you like about Rotary?
What keeps you in Rotary?
What is the key project your club is doing that you really enjoy?
The answers to these three questions will help express your passion for what you do!
Another Zone 28 survey of successful clubs who had an increase in annual membership and strong retention found five common characteristics: 1. Strong Leadership – involve your members in leadership of projects 2. Clear membership goals and a growth plan- everyone needs to know the goals 3. Active in the community / many events and service projects 4. Visibility in the community / strong public image
It’s not just doing, it’s being seen doing!
5. Active, intentional member engagement
Engage new members, get them included right away, but first find their passion
Diversify membership by recruiting persons outside your social circle
We can all work together to ensure that all members feel welcomed, respected, and valued!
Greeters should arrive BY 7:15 AM and assist members to set up, hand out name badges, welcome guests and identify visiting Rotarians. Smile! Make EVERYONE feel welcome. Introduce them to other members.
