OUR SPEAKER THIS WEEK IS SARA E. THOMAS, LIVINGSTON LAND CONSERVANCY
She is the president of land acquisitions and will educate us about its mission, activities and a new project involving the wildlife area and wetlands behind the Brighton District Library. Their long-term goal would be to restore the native ecosystems and then put in a trail open to the public. She's an honors graduate from Michigan State University and has been with land conservancy projects for the last 30 years.
To protect the natural heritage and rural character of the greater Livingston County area by preserving quality natural areas and productive farmland as well as to promote an appreciation and understanding of the environment for the long-term benefit of the public.
MORE ABOUT SARA THOMAS...
Sara lives in Oceola Township., Howell. She received a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Michigan State; has received the Conservation Medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Green Tree Award from the Huron Valley Girt Scout Council, is a member of the Brighton Women’s Roll of Honor, and was nominated for the City of Brighton’s Volunteer of the Year for the Miller School program, “Environmental Awareness Month”.
She is one of the founding members of the Livingston Land Conservancy when it was formed in the mid-1990s and has served as the land acquisition chair for many years, helping to secure the majority of the 650 acres currently under protection. She fondly remembers childhood days visiting her grandparents’ farm in Gregory, loves being outdoors honing her naturalist skills, and working on the restoration of her small prairie.
Greeters should arrive BY 7:15 AM and assist members to set up, hand out name badges, welcome guests and identify visiting Rotarians. Smile! Make EVERYONE feel welcome. Introduce them to other members.

DO YOU SHOP AT KROGER?
If so, you could be making a donation to the LSRC Foundation every time you buy something there. It's simple.
Just link your Kroger RewardsCard to your organization:
Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation (NQ639).
Community Rewards is easy to understand and easy to explain! The more our supporters shop with Kroger, the more money LSR Foundation will earn!
It's March, and that means March Reading Month! [If you can read this newsletter, thank your parents and a teacher.]
In our support of literacy, our Club's Literacy Committee asked for recommendations for a book donation idea from member Steve Livingway to give to his current Reaching Higher 5th/6th/7th grade kids at Carsten's Academy in Detroit. These kids will graduate from his Reaching Higher class in April. We are ordering the following for these kids:
15 - I am Leader 90 day Journal for Teens, by Peter J. Liang ($16.95 each)
10 - I am Leader 90 day Journal for Kids, by Peter J. Liang ($16.95 each)
The total, with tax, is $449.25.
Friday, March 25th is the last day for collecting book donations for March Reading Month. An envelope for donations will be at the sign-in table tomorrow. Thanks so very much to everyone who has so generously responded!
The books will be presented at our meeting Friday to Steve Livingway as Club gifts to the 25 Reaching Higher 5th/6th/7th students that he is instructing at Carsten's Academy, a Detroit public school.
Thanks for this Club's support of Literacy!
Luanne
In addition, each kid will receive a new 2022 calendar book that came through a separate donation.
Can you help with the needed donations for these books?
We are hoping to have the books ready to hand out by April 1.
You can bring any cash donations to me at club meetings, or you can send them to me via Venmo - Luanne Bibbee@Luanne-Bibbee (last four digits of my cell are 2819.)
Thanks for supporting literacy, and for supporting Steve's kids!!

All right, all right, all right! Meet with your fellow Rotarians and their family and friends in Downtown Brighton starting April 6. No foolin'! Lunch begins promptly at noon, so check out the menu posted online at Jameson's Irish Pub. All the food is prepared to your specifications and is fresh made from scratch.
Click on the link hereto read their menu and be prepared to order when you arrive! Or you can order ahead of time if you need to duck out early.
We still have one more Tuesday in March left, so see you at Corrati's in Downtown Howell. You must try their delicious sorbetto and gelato, made with the Cadillac of all gelato machines, with training in Italy! It's not on the menu. Gotta ask for a taste.
Invite your extended Rotary Family [aka spouses], friends or co-workers. This also is a great way to introduce them to our club and what makes LSRC so special! There simply isn't enough time at our weekly meetings to get to know one another better. SO, EACH ONE BRING ONE.
Spring has sprung bringing in warmer weather and sunshine. We are so o o o o excited to have this break in weather to work on many projects that we could not do during the colder, snowy months.
All of you have helped out on at least one of our projects in the past year and we would love to have you back.
Starting next week on March 29th, we will be at our Oak Crest house putting the siding up. This is exciting because teens 14 and up can join in! What a wonderful , fun and unique way to spend Spring break!
The month of April we will be at the Oak Crest house completing the siding and getting the home ready for the next phase.
We can't do what we do and make dreams come true, without YOU!
Won't you be part of this journey for our home owner??
You have heard me talk about the Guatemala Literacy Project. Now you can experience a virtual tour of the Guatemala Literacy Project free of charge. The virtual tour will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2022 starting at 3:00 pm.

It is a tragic and sad time for the people of Ukraine and the world.
Many of you may not have remembered and/or even known but we have very close Ukraine ties to RI CEO John Hewko through our District and the Rotary Club of Clarkson . Our District assisted in planting the seed 30 years ago to help sponsor the 1st Kyiv Rotary Club in Ukraine.
Because of these past District connections Mr. Hewko is suggesting we all channel efforts to the RI Disaster Response Fund until 30 April 2022. RI will then put a report together about all the donations from RC Kyiv co-sponsor Districts/Clubs. He sees it as a demonstration of Rotarians from different Districts, Clubs and Countries coming together again collaborating to help Ukraine.
Today, our thoughts are with our fellow Rotary members and others in Ukraine coping with these tragic events. Rotary International will do everything in its power to bring aid, support and peace to the region.
CLICK HERE to read more about R. I.'s efforts in Ukraine.
As one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, we have made peace the cornerstone of our global mission and I thank you all for your continued efforts to Serve to Change Lives.
