Three life rules

  1. If you don’t go after what you want you’ll never have it.

  2. If you don’t ever ask, the answer will always be no.

  3. If you don’t step forward, you’ll always be in the same place

Patty Courtney's message from last week:

These warmer days refresh the soul don't they?
Last Friday we heard from member Jim Gilmore with an update from VINA Dental. VINA Community Dental Center is a non profit outreach facility in Brighton. Their mission is to provide quality,  affordable dental care to Livingston County residents with limited finances and little to no access to dental care.

Editor's note: April 14-17 is VINA Dental's silent auction, Spring Out of Quarantine. Because their annual Spring Gala cannot be scheduled due to CoViD restrictions, this is a great way to support their mission.... and claim some goodies as well! Go to https://cbo.io/bidapp/index.php?slug=vina and register. Item #1 is particularly appealing, A Sunrise Cottage Getaway. Enjoy four days and three nights on beautiful Lake Huron at Point Lookout. Bidding starts at $400,

Congratulations to member Connie Conklin, this month's recipient of the Golden Roty Award.  Connie was nominated by member John Scotta. John shared glowing words of appreciation and respect for Connie.  Thank you Connie for all you do in our community.

We were visited Friday by our own Assistant Governor, Carrie Newstead.  Carrie has a special service opportunity for us.  Check in and find out about it.

CLUB ASSEMBLY RECAP

NEW MEETING LOCATION

A new meeting location has been chosen for our breakfasts. It's L-E-S-A, the Livingston Educational Service Agency, just a few blocks west of the Bennett Recreation Center. A lot went into choosing the facility among many, many options. The criteria: Must be FREE or nearly FREE-FREE-FREE. Allows catered meals. Has some storage for club banners, lectern. Had to have enough room to grow our membership. Good A/V equipment and acoustics. Somewhat centrally located. Great parking.

TEAM UNSTOPPABLE

"Team Unstoppable" is all about promoting a positive public image of the Club and Rotary organizations. We highlight our service to the community and our relationships with community partners to build good will, attract additional resources to our causes, and strengthen the positive impact of our efforts on the community.

We have a great team working on this:  Mike Lenninger is responsible for our Club newsletter.  [Anyone who wants to be Assistant Editor I will train you. Usually with an adult malted beverage in hand!] Sam Brish handles social media. Photographer is Anne Rennie. Michael O'Brian manages the website.

We invite anyone with an interest in helping to promote the Club to get involved, at any level of your choice. Team Unstoppable will stop only long enough to welcome YOU!

HELP SAVE LIVES AT COVID-19 CLINIC at CHILSON HILLS CHURCH

Dear LSRC members,

Our Assistant Governor, Carrie Newstead has presented an opportunity for us to get involved with helping at our Livingston County Health Department.

Some highlights:

The Livingston County Health Department is now running several clinics a week at Chilson Hills Church on Brighton Road.  hey are in need of some high level volunteers.  Who better to step up then our Rotarians?

Members can email me if interested and I can forward the volunteer forms that will need to be completed or they email Heather directly at the Health Department, who’s contact information is at the bottom of the flyer.  I thought it would be nice to talk about my experience volunteering on Wednesdays Clinic earlier this week.  Without a doubt one of the most rewarding and amazing volunteering experiences.  hank you to all of you for your incredible leadership during this pandemic.

ROTARY CHALLENGE BLOOD DRIVE SAVED 50 LIVES!
Thanks to you generous Rotarians and friends who made a small sacrifice of time (about an hour) and donated a pint of life-giving fluid, Versiti Blood Centers of Michigan collected 17 "units" of blood. A unit is really a pint, unless it's a double red donation, and then it counts as two donations!  You've heard on television, Get me two units of O-negative, STAT!" Those are precious double reds.

They provided an improved experience for blood donors, and the staff was both friendly and informative. They LOVED the Brighton Rotary Clubhouse as a blood donation site, although it is out of the way and sometimes hard to find.  Thank you Howell Rotary for being the first to volunteer and for Jake Andrews who showed up at 9:45 to help set up and welcomed donors until noon. Our next blood drive is Wednesday, June 30th at The Brighton Light House. Hours should be 12:30 - 7 pm.

           WHEN:       Wednesday, March 31, 2021

           WHERE:    The Brighton Light House
                                   142 Brighton Lake Road

          TIME:          12:30 - 7:00 pm

A FEARSOME FOURSOME for GOLF

From Jim Gilmore, past Michigan governor and all things sports:

It's time for the 18th annual Fowlerville Rotary Golf Outing. It will be held at Oak Lane Golf Course in Webberville, June 11, 2021.

We usually support them with a foursome or two. It is one of the more reasonably priced (at $75 per golfer) and one of the most enjoyable outings as we support our fellow Rotarians to the west.

It is a 4 person scramble format with prizes to the top Mens, Womens and Mixed Teams.

Sara Barnwell and Diana Romsek already committed at last week's meeting so we are well on our way.

Since we are fellow Rotarians, we can pay at the door with cash or check. To register, just send me your name and email and I'll complete the forms for our team(s).

Time to get the clubs dusted off...

Jim

GUATEMALA LITERACY PROGRAM SENDS GRATEFUL NOTE

Brenda,

Hi, Tim!  Please share this thank you note that I received from the Guatemala Literacy Project.  Thanks for the Foundation support.  It is greatly appreciated.  Janet

______

Dear Janet and the Rotary Club of Livingston Sunrise (Brighton),

On behalf of GLP Advisory Board Chair Colin Thacker, thank you very much for the Rotary Club of Livingston Sunrise (Brighton)'s generous contribution to Guatemala Literacy Project Global Grant #2124415. Your generosity will make possible a better education and a brighter future for many schoolchildren in impoverished Guatemalan communities.

Because these programs are self-sustaining, your gift will keep on giving year after year as new students are helped each and every year in perpetuity. And pending approval by The Rotary Foundation, your club’s contribution will be multiplied up to 2.8 times by the Foundation on Global Grant #2124415!

After the project inaugurations in February of 2022, your club will receive a full report, including thank you letters from some of the students that you have helped.

We look forward to keeping you and your club informed about the projects after our deliveries next February. Thanks again for all your support!

Sincerely,

Jessica
