News You Can Use for 04/29/22
LETS PLAY 20 QUESTIONS WITH BRENDA TIPTON

BrendaK Tipton is a past-president of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club and is the current Governor of Rotary District 6380. Her reign... uh, rule... TERM ends June 30th. We thought we would ask her some of the questions you might ask. This will be a multi-part article over the next few weeks.

7. What will your legacy as Governor be?

I hope that those will remember that I was the exciting, innovated and energetic Governor at the right time in the right place in order to keep the district together during the once-in-a-life time Pandemic.

I didn’t have to really change much of my Initiatives or Goals I set leading into my honored year due to the intense changes in the world. But I know I helped keep our District stogether and even grew membership with my enthusiasm and energy. Most importantly I was able to target innovative out-of-the-box opportunities and bring them to the forefront in order to keep members involved. I hope that growth will continue for years to come.

There are some many firsts and notable achievements during my year as the district’s honorable Governor.

We implemented intense hands on Rotary Online Tools and Social Media training to our Presidents, Clubs and District leaders so that they could reconcile their club’s data and enter goals to expand and give performance tracking direction of their clubs.

We were able to absorb the increaase in member/club dues cost at the district level to allow for clubs to focus more on membership growth, member engagement and most importantly membership retention.

We opened opportunities each month (whether virtual or in person) to engage all District members family and friends, and most importantly I was able to implement four items that I feel will propel our District for years to come.

1)  Developed, Created and Implemented the District 6380 Charitable Organization 501c3 that will open opportunities for club partnership in fundraising, open avenues for direct donations and build on monetary fund reserves in order to offset any short falls for District/Global Grants

2) Started a Quarterly membership and educational event geared to specific topics such as the history and roles of Women in Rotary

3) Spearheaded the start of the District wide Peace Committee with focus on the combined creation of efforts for a more peaceful world especially during these troubled times

4) Brought together a variety of diverse leaders and implemented the District's DEIJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice) Committee to open the doors for clubs and our District to be more inclusive and diverse after all the District Rotarians elected me as their First Openly Gay Governor – WooWoo!!

ROTARIANS in ACTION for APRIL 2022
HLOOK WHO HELPED ROTARY CLEAN UP HOWELL
The Howell Rotary Club and LSRC celebrated Earth Day on Saturday, April 23 cleaning up the Railroad right-of-way along the Downtown corridor.

Howell City Councilman Nick Hertrich separated volunteers into groups, assign individuals to work zones and provide the necessary equipment/materials to complete the job. The overall objective is trash pickup, brush/organics removal, and graffiti coverup around the Howell Depot Museum (128 Wetmore St., Howell).

Mark Robinson, Anne Rennie, John S. Dianne McCormick, Jamie Nicholson and Carolyn Henry participated as well as many other Rotarians. They collected about 40 bags of trash. No word on graffiti cleanup results.

THE UKRAINIAN WAR AND ROTARY

It is a tragic and sad time for the people of Ukraine and the world.

Many of you may not have remembered and/or even known but we have very close Ukraine ties to RI CEO John Hewko through our District and the Rotary Club of Clarkson .  Our District assisted in planting the seed 30 years ago to help sponsor the 1st Kyiv Rotary Club in Ukraine.

Because of these past District connections Mr. Hewko is suggesting we all channel efforts to the RI  Disaster Response Fund until 30 April 2022. RI will  then put a report together about all the donations  from RC Kyiv co-sponsor Districts/Clubs. He sees it as a demonstration of Rotarians from different Districts, Clubs and Countries coming together again collaborating to help Ukraine.

Today, our thoughts are with our fellow Rotary members and others in Ukraine coping with these tragic events. Rotary International will do everything in its power to bring aid, support and peace to the region.

As one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, we have made peace the cornerstone of our global mission and I thank you all for your continued efforts to Serve to Change Lives.
