THIS WEEK'S MEETING...
Please welcome Sam Jorgens and Jim Gilmore and their TOOTH TALK... they promise to tell the tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth. Don't worry, you can handle the tooth. It's all about the good work VINA Dental Clinic is doing in Livingston County.
It's fall, y'all and Jim Gilmore wants your money to fund our annual Pobuda Scholarships through a Fantasy Football competition. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO SIGN UP!
We are getting the teams and owners signed up for this annual fundraiser that is in its umpteenth year now (you'll have to ask Diane McCormick exactly how many as she has the travelling trophy).
The object is to have a little fun with fantasy football while raising some money for our Club's Scholarship fund named after our third President, Don Pobuda.
Here is how it works...
Each player (team owner) kicks in $40 for their team. $25 goes to the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation for the Pobuda Scholarship Fund and $15 is set aside for prizes and trophy engraving at the end of the season.
You can be as active as you choose in changing players, using the waiver wire, trades, etc. We have had winners who have very little (or no) activity at all as well as those who seem to know alot about the NFL. We use Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football platform which is fairly easy to learn and navigate. Choosing your team name is a fun exercise and we've had a few extremely creative names (ie. WooWoo's Rumble, Locos Rotarian and Tacklin' Fuel) and others not so creative (ie. Sara's Team). We usually award prizes for First (less the engraving cost) Second and Third.
Tom Archer and I are the Commissioners and our decisions are final...no appeals.
So, if you are interested, let me know by email and include the email you want to use for your league communications. If you were a participant last year, you can keep your team name and if you are new, we'll assign you a team or ask you create a new one. If you were a participant last year and you do not want to play this year, let me know so we can assign your tream to someone else.[Do it now. Pre-season games start now through the end of August, but they don't count!]
Your money is due prior to the AutoDraft, which will be held automatically Saturday, September 3 prior to the first game...no money, we re-assign your team. Please pay in cash paper-clipped to a Post-it with your name on it or check for $25 made to the LSRF and $15 cash (also paper-clipped). Please DO NOT give me a check for $40 made out to LSRF or made out to me... [Got it. Give $15 cash to Jim, write a check to LSR Foundation for $25.]
Don't miss your chance to play and support the Pobuda Scholarship!
Jim

PLAY GOLF, HELP HARTLAND HERO TEEN CENTER
Down South, we call 'em tournaments. A bit of an intimidating word, which brings out competitive players. Up here, they are golf "outings" which are fun, whimsical and you don't even have to be a good golfer to have a good time. So Steve Livingway is inviting you to have a good time playing 9 holes of golf.
The Hartland HERO Teen Center provides a fun, safe, FREE place for Hartland area teens to play, hang out, eat a meal, and build connections after school and in the summer. The annual Golf Outing is our main fundraiser for the entire school year.

TORCH 180 GLOW 5K RACE OCT FIRST
Rhonda Callahan from The Torch and Torch 180 has sent some information regarding their FUN event coming up on October 1st!
The Torch is a previous MITT beneficiary and they are running on cylinders! This amazing duo organization is making a difference in the lives of the participants and the community.
Please see the following sites as well as the descriptive attachment Rhonda's shared.
Come celebrate 25 years of Reaching Higher and 25 years of helping kids be the best they can be! I know this year's gala is going to be even more fun and more special than our normal yearly event, and I sure hope to see some of my LSRC friends there for this special evening. Mark your calendars for the evening of Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Westin Book Cadillac building in Downtown Detroit.
Please pass this on to anyone you know who might be interested in attending and/or anyone who might be able to sponsor.
ROTARY FAMILY LUNCH - TUESDAYS in HOWELL at CORATTI'S!
Meet with your fellow Rotarians and their family and friends in Downtown Howell at Coratti's. Park out back or in front of the restaurant.
Invite your extended Rotary Family [aka spouses], friends or co-workers. Or a member you haven't seen lately! This is one of the things that makes LSRC so special! SO, EACH ONE BRING ONE.
Many thanks to all who participated in our visioning and planning sessions over the last couple of months. Your time, efforts, and great ideas into longer term planning will help Livingston Sunrise be its best - making a real difference in the community. And your voices help set the agenda for this year as four initiatives rose to the top as being most important to you.
One of these "Jump Start Initiatives" is a Service Committee to help the Community Service Director engage Club members in meaningful service. This Committee will be exploring ways to broaden opportunities that may include family-centered volunteerism, regional and international projects, Club projects, etc., and recruit volunteers to fill the needs.
If this exciting opportunity to serve your Club is calling you, please reach out to John Scotta, jscotta@cobbhall.com.
Be sure to check future bulletins for information on our other "Jump Start Initiatives". This is going to be a great year!

WHY DID YOU JOIN ROTARY?
What drives our members to join Rotary and as importantly, to stay in Rotary? Rotary founder Paul Harris told members in an address at a Rotary Convention in 1922 “The motive power of Rotary is friendship.”
According to a recent Rotary International survey, Friendship and Fellowship are big factors for members to join and stay in Rotary, but so is Passion for CommunityService and Projects.
The survey also noted that, 82% of new members found their clubs through friends, colleagues, and other members. This highlights how important it is for Rotarians to talk about Rotary to their social circle! Rotarians in general are humble, workers wanting to make the world a better place but find it difficult to talk about themselves and the impact they are making in their communities.
To make it easier to talk about Rotary, think about jotting a few notes for yourself:
What do you like about Rotary?
What keeps you in Rotary?
What is the key project your club is doing that you really enjoy?
The answers to these three questions will help express your passion for what you do!
Another Zone 28 survey of successful clubs who had an increase in annual membership and strong retention found five common characteristics: 1. Strong Leadership – involve your members in leadership of projects 2. Clear membership goals and a growth plan- everyone needs to know the goals 3. Active in the community / many events and service projects 4. Visibility in the community / strong public image
It’s not just doing, it’s being seen doing!
5. Active, intentional member engagement
Engage new members, get them included right away, but first find their passion
Diversify membership by recruiting persons outside your social circle
We can all work together to ensure that all members feel welcomed, respected, and valued!
Greeters should arrive BY 7:15 AM and assist members to set up, hand out name badges, welcome guests and identify visiting Rotarians. Smile! Make EVERYONE feel welcome. Introduce them to other members.
