THIS WEEK'S SPEAKER IS...
Lt. Robert Leach, Salvation Army of Livingston County will fill us in on what's happening in our county this summer and beyond. No, The Salvation Army of Livingston County is NOT the Thrift Store. The Salvation Army Family Store and Donation Center in Brighton is run by the Salvation Army of Southeast Michigan. To make donations or to call for a pickup of items, see www.SATruck.org

Who we Are
The Salvation Army has been serving the Livingston County for more than 125 years. During these years, we have strived to meet human needs and guide them to a relationship with the God who believes in them. Our goal is to collaborate with other churches, organizations, and agencies to serve the total person. To move them to self sufficiency and self respect. With the help of generous donors, we are able to “Do The Most Good”. Thank you for your support.

Our Local Leadership
Lts. Robert and Stephanie Leach
The Leachs are a family of five including three beautiful girls, ages 3, 5, and 7. Just by talking with Rob you’d be able to tell that he isn’t from around here, which you’d be correct. Rob comes from Melbourne, Australia, where his family still resides. Stephanie’s accent is more common as she was born and raised in Western Michigan, Sparta to be exact.

Rob has a degree in Sound Tech Engineering, but also spent time pursuing a degree in theology and counseling until God called him to the States. Stephanie’s degree is in Studio Art but began her studies are in Child Development and Education. They both love to learn and are eager to see where God leads them.

As a couple, Rob and Stephanie have had a bit of a journey. They started their ministry in Holland, Michigan in 2016 (?) and moved each year after that. First spending time in Elkhart, Indiana, then South Bend Indiana, until they landed at The Salvation Army training college in Chicago for the last two years.

⭐️WEEKLY WORD from JAMIE N.⭐️
IS IT THE TRUTH?
As members of LSRC we participate in a weekly pledge, asking ourselves, "Of the things we think, do or say: first, is it the truth?" among other valuable questions.

During a recent community fundraiser, four members of LSRC participated in a SOFTBALL GAME.  Let's just say that ONE member (who shall remain anonymous) made a BAD CALL and was CONFRONTED by the club President WITH that FIRST QUESTION of the Four-Way-Test.. Is the offending member a judge in real life? Maybe.

Were we LAUGHING at the blatant error meant to supply entertainment for all? Indeed.   ... all for a good cause ...
We work together. We change lives. We daily put on service above self.

Yours truly,
Jamie

20 QUESTIONS WITH BRENDA TIPTON

BrendaK Tipton is a past-president of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club and is the current Governor of Rotary District 6380. Her reign... uh, rule... er...TERM ends June 30th. We thought we would ask her some of the questions you might ask. This will be a multi-part article over the next few weeks.

15. Tell us a funny story involving you and Rotary.
Ha! I’m sure the members of Sunrise Rotary can tell you those. I’m pretty sure I made a fool of myself at each and every meeting during my Presidency. One day does stand out, however, as being probably when my actions were the most funny, especially to those visitors.

It was when we had our meeting celebrating reaching our goal of 60 members. I remember I was a bit out of control with uncontrollable energy and excitement hugging everyone, jumping up and down that nothing could contain my happiness as eating cake and celebrating reaching our goal at 7 a.m.!  Yep I was having the time of my life that day being with and celebrating maybe a bit too much for most!

ROTARY FAMILY LUNCH - WEDNESDAYs in BRIGHTON
Meet with your fellow Rotarians and their family and friends in Downtown Brighton at Jameson's Irish Pub and Grill. Lunch begins promptly at noon, so check out the menu posted online.  First one there, please reserve a table. Expect about 8!

Click here for the menu. It's all made from scratch!  https://www.jamesonsirishpub.net/our-menu/

Invite your extended Rotary Family [aka spouses], friends or co-workers. Or a member you haven't seen lately! This is one of the things that makes LSRC so special!  SO, EACH ONE BRING ONE.

THE FOUR OBJECTIVES of ROTARY INT'L
We all know THE FOUR-WAY TEST. But who knows what are the Four Objectives of Rotary?
Just to be contrary, let's start with Number Three.

"The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the IDEAL of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular to ENCOURAGE and FOSTER...
...the application of the IDEAL of SERVICE in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life.

Who can think of a specific example of how you, or any Rotarian, has applied the ideal of service in your/their personal, business or community life? First person to whisper an an example to me (or email MLenninger@gmail.com) will receive a MYSTERY GIFT!

World Medical Relief's Aid to Ukraine

World Medical Relief based in Southfield, Michigan is directly involved in sending needed emergency medical supplies to Ukrainian medical facilities. WMR is in contact with the Ukrainian government which has sent us a request for medical supplies that they desperately need and we have in stock. These medical supplies are donated to WMR by several major medical centers in Michigan and other medical facilities. We are partnering with the Omnis Foundation which has offices in both Kiev and Warsaw.

WMR is packing these medical supplies in “Gaylords”. A gaylord is a standard size cardboard shipping box that is 4’x4’x4’ on a pallet. It will hold 64 cubic feet of supplies. The gaylords are loaded into a truck and sent to New Jersey where they are then loaded into an air freighter and flown directly to Warsaw, Poland. Omnis Foundation then transports the shipment of supplies from Warsaw to wherever they are needed in Ukraine.

Air freighting the medical supplies allows us to send these supplies quickly to where they are needed. However, it is expensive to ship by air. WMR is charged by weight of the Gaylord. On average it costs $1000 per Gaylord. We try to make a shipment to have between 5 and 15 gaylords. We could send more. That is at a cost of $5000 to $15000. WMR needs organizations, service club, corporations and individuals to sponsor a Gaylord. This donation will directly aid the medical crisis in Ukraine.

I ask The Livingston Sunrise Rotary to help.

Thanks!
Mike
