Happy New Year!  I'm sick of hearing that phrase already. Here's a good reply:  So what's up with you in twenty twenty two?  Join us each and almost every Friday for The Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club breakfast, held at the LESA building in Howell.

Socialization begins about 7:15 am
The meeting rings in promptly at 7:30. Please help set up and help tear down. Bring someone to breakfast as a guest. Pay Madam Treasurer only $5. Do NOT pass Go, do NOT collect $150. Late? Cough up a buck to the Fine Sheriff.

EVERYONE WEAR SOMETHING PLAID this Friday, Jan. 28th. Or something akin to a tablecloth. Steve Gronow accepted a challenge from Sally to pay a $5 fine for every plaid shirt in sight.

BRING at least $5 for the 50/50 DRAWING.  (The POT is at $0 and growing... Lucky Anne Richardson with United Way of Livingston County collected about $1155 last week.)  Exact change is appreciated! If you buy one set of tickets, the odds are less than 1 in 30 that your number will be called.

All proceeds help pay for President's Night 2022.

Click here to join us via ZOOM:  https://zoom.us/j/4489403870

ZOOM - ZOOM !
If you cannot make it to a meeting in person, please join us via ZOOM and keep your VIDEO camera on so we can see your smiling face! [This means you Courtney Atsalakis since I hear you are NOT a morning person.]

If you do show up, remember the CDC has recommended that EVERYONE wear a mask INDOORS, even if you have been vaxxed AND boosted.  This Omicron variant of CoViD-19 is so contagious, it has created many, many breakthrough infections, even with people who have had CoViD-19 before. Masks, however, are NOT mandatory, but highly encouraged for Rotary Club members and their guests.  Feel free to social distance as well, and 12 feet apart is safer than six feet.

🤩 Jamie NICHOLSON's WEEKLY WORD 🤩
🎩  PAST PRESIDENTS We have a fine list of current members who have served our club in the office of LSRC President over the years. The honors go to Luanne Bibbee, Pattie Courtney, Jim Gilmore, Brenda Ochodnicky, Wayne Perry, Brenda Tipton, Jim Watters, and Tim Williams. This select group (updated annually) joins the current president, president-elect, and president-nominee to carefully consider candidates for future LSRC leadership, specifically the presidency. This year's  nominee selection is for LSRC President '24/'25. Talk about PLANNING AHEAD!!
😮

🥳 SAVE THE DATE!
The Second "Annual" LSRC Indoor Cornhole Tourney is in the works. Jim Watters and Linda Carey are working on this SOCIAL MIXER for the club slated to take place on April 29, 2022 at Aberrant Ales in Howell.  Some members may recall the FUN the last time we met at the brewery. Come enjoy the camaraderie of fellow Rotarians as we have a little friendly competition playing corn-hole.

The cost of this event will be only $10 per person with the money being divided between a CHARITY and the winners. If you choose not to play, but still would like to come and hang out, your FULL $10 will go towards the charity and not be used for prizes. This game requires teams of two, you can either enter as a team or we will team you up with a partner. Come out and join us for some adult beverages, food and fun!! You don't have to be good, you just have to be able to TOSS A BEAN BAG.

Check Out the ClubRunner Calendar at www.livingstonsunriserotary.org for ALL upcoming events, weekly activities, club business meetings, information about upcoming speakers and MORE!  [HINT:  all of the blue underlined words above are hotlinks for a website or email!]

BITS 'N' PIECES - News You Can Use
WHAT'S THE STORY ABOUT THE CHICKEN BASKET?
Nelson recalls that one of our early LSRC members had a bed and breakfast in Howell on Grand River. [Angie's Inn on the Grand, on the north side , one of the bigger houses with a portico.] We can't or never knew her name but, she offered the basket as a "fines" receptacle. It was accepted willingly as LSRC has the rooster on its LSRC logo. [Really? What logo?]  That's our story and Nelson is sticking to it.  --Lee Halstead, Hartland Rotary Club

HOST A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT 2022-23
Patricia Courtney writes:  "It is my hope that our club will be able to continue the tradition of hosting one of our exchange students. We need your assistance in making this happen. We will need 2-3 good host families for the 2022-23 academic school year.

How about you?  Or possibly you know someone who might enjoy this unique opportunity and experience?  I'd love to talk to you more about it!  Please catch me at club, email or give me a ring.  I'd love to share my own experiences with you."

Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) has enjoyed a long and excellent reputation of creating life-changing opportunities for young people from around the world.

These students learn lifelong leadership skills, experience a new language and culture, build lasting friendships with other students from around the world and truly become global citizens. Students ages 15-19 exchange in more than 100 counties every year.  Each of these students are supported both at home and abroad by local Rotary Clubs.

Our club has been so fortunate to have hosted several of these top notch students the past few years.  Possibly you remember Daniela (Czech Republic), Lea  (S. Korea), Vivi (Brazil) and most recently Gabby (Peru) [pictured above last week in sunny Southern California] and Elias (Germany) [also pictured above].  [Please send them an encouraging email by clicking on their names to the left.] All of these extraordinary young people spent a full academic year with us and we were so blessed to know them.  I’ve enjoyed hearing from them occasionally and how their experience on exchange has truly impacted their lives.

GLEANERS' CUPBOARDS ARE BARE

Gleaners needs us to help restock the personal care items they give to needy people and families. Tucked away in your bathroom closet, you must have some sample sizes of deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream, little bars of soap, hand cream, shaving cream... you know, the stuff you'd pick up at hotels when you used to travel PRE CoViD-19. I don't know about you, but since I bought a Sonic toothbrush, I've been accumulating a ton free toothbrushes from my dentist for the last 10 years. Bring those!

If YOUR cupboard is bare, you also can pick up some sample sizes at your local grocery store, Meijers, CVS or Walgreens. Bring them to Friday's meeting and Terry Defina will collect them and give them to Gleaners.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AND VOLUNTEER for COMMUNITY CONNECT

Hello Sunrise Rotarians & Happy New Year!

I ask that you share this information with anyone you know who may potentially benefit.  More information will be shared at our Friday meetings.

Livingston County’s 15th Annual Community Connect will take place on Saturday, February 5th from10am until 2pm at 2|42 Community Church in Genoa Township. This free event is hosted by the Livingston County Homeless Continuum of Care Committee and serves as a one-stop shop for resources and services.

Guests will have access to food, personal care items, haircuts, laundry detergent, socks, legal consultation, and more. Breakfast and lunch are provided at no charge. No registration is required, but attendees need to secure their own transportation to and from the event.

In order to make this event as successful as possible, hundreds of dedicated volunteers are being sought. Volunteers are needed to not only welcome guests and help them find resources, but also for setting up on the day before, taking down after the event, and making sure the facility is clean and safe during the day. Free lunch, snacks and beverages will be available to Saturday volunteers.

The Committee recognizes the concern for public health in gatherings and is encouraging mask wearing to help mitigate the spread of COVID. They ask that anyone experiencing any symptoms on the day of the event, to please stay home and rest.

Volunteers may register online at https://bit.ly/3HACNOf, or by calling Liz Welch for more information at 810-494-3000. Volunteer registrations are due by January 21st.

Thank you,
Mark
