LETS PLAY 20 QUESTIONS WITH BRENDA TIPTON

BrendaK Tipton is a past-president of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club and is the current Governor of Rotary District 6380. Her reign... uh, rule... TERM ends June 30th. We thought we would ask her some of the questions you might ask. This will be a multi-part article over the next few weeks.

1. Why is it BrendaK and not Brenda K?

It's both! My name is Brenda Kay but I like to combine the letter K at the end to make it more unique. There are a lot of "Brenda's" in the world but there are fewer BrendaK's.

My name was actually going to be Brenda Starr after the comic strip about the intrepid red-haired reporter, but my dad changed Starr to Kay (his middle name) and then my parents named my sister after Wendy in Piper Pan and added her middle name as Starr. Not sure if the comic strip and Disney names said anything about my parents who gave me one of the best childhoods a kid could ask for.

2. How did you get the nickname "WooWoo"?

OMG that's easy!!  I got my name from the members of Livingston Sunrise Rotary (or maybe I just gave it to myself some many years ago).  I have always been a morning person and tend to have a lot of energy in the early hours unlike most people. The nickname started when I'd be helping promote events and I had a tendency to run around the room WooWoo’ing trying to get everyone excited and energized for the events and guess what -- it worked and I have not stopped in that tradition.

I decided to grab the WooWoo and take into my District Leadership roles in order to honor my club, have a name that stood out and to be a little more different and unique from all the rest.  When you read it BrendaK "WooWoo" Tipton don't you just think of fun and excitement LOL?  Thank You Livingston Sunrise Rotary Rotarians for putting up with my morning WooWoo's for all these years!  I just smile when people call me WooWoo..LOL

3. So, Woo-Woo, wouldn't you agree that there should be a FIVE-way test, and Rule No. 1 is to have some fun?

For those who were around when I was President of the club in 2017-2018 know that at the end of each meeting instead of the 4 Way test as part of my Presidency to engage and excite I added 5.  Five was to HAVE FUN!!

My intent was that we all would end each meeting in a unique way coming together with excitement to face the day on a very very high note and one that was to HAVE FUN!! WooWoo!!  I have to say at the end of those meets our clubs’ voices were loud and the smiles were wide as we all were together and said HAVE FUN!!  I know visiting Rotarians and/or others that had the opportunity to attend our meetings during that year were taken aback but how amazing and exciting we ended our meets on that uplifting note. [My wife once dropped off Duck Race money at one of those meetings and left shaking her head thinking "those people are WAY too energetic this early in the morning."]

JOIN US FOR FOOD, FUN, BEER & CORNHOLE Friday April 29th
It's our semi-annual social event. We are gathering at Aberrant Ales in Downtown Howell to have fun. Bring family and friends. Play CornHole. Starts at 6 pm and lasts until they kick us out. LSRC = FUN  RSVP to JIM WATTERS (810)225-4420 or at BankRJ103@comcast.net if you want to be enrolled in the cornhole tournament.

MEET SENIOR SURVIVOR BRENT NICHOLS
This is Brent Nichols from the Rotary Club meeting this morning. It was a delight to meet you today. I appreciate your kindness and support. The Livingston County Rotary Club raised $247 this morning! That's insane! [We passed the chicken around for donations. What a giving group!]

I just want to say thank you once more for the opportunity to connect with you and all of the members of this wonderful organization! If you are interested in supporting Team Nicholback in the Senior Survivor competition this year there are a couple of ways.

One is becoming a sponsor. There are different levels of sponsorship starting at the Bronze level ($500) all the way up to the Highlander For Life sponsorship ($25,000). Starting at the Gold level ($5,000), your organization logo will be displayed on all of the t-shirts we sell!

Another way to support is by donating! Any amount you pledge whether online, or cash/check (made out to Howell High School) will directly support me in the competition. Lastly, helping me make connections is extremely helpful! Even just a name and number I might be able to call will give me an edge in Senior Survivor! Again, thank you so much for your support. I can't explain how joyful I am to know there is a group of individuals like this in the Howell area. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or comments.

My email is brenton.nick@gmail.com <mailto:brenton.nick@gmail.com>  and my phone number is (810) 923-2524. [Senior Survior is a one-week fund-raising effort by Howell HS Seniors to raise funds for a community service project. [The 2022 Senior Survivor project is to purchase and install handicapped accessible playground equipment at the Genoa Township Hall. See this story on WHMI]:

Thank you so much!

Brent

ROTARY FAMILY LUNCH - WEDNESDAY APRIL 6 in BRIGHTON at NOON

All right, all right, all right!  Meet with your fellow Rotarians and their family and friends in Downtown Brighton starting April 6. No foolin'!  Lunch begins promptly at noon, so check out the menu posted online at Jameson's Irish Pub. All the food is prepared to your specifications and is fresh made from scratch.

Click on the link here to read their menu and be prepared to order when you arrive!  Or you can order ahead of time if you need to duck out early.

We still have one more Tuesday in March left, so see you at Corrati's in Downtown Howell. You must try their delicious sorbetto and gelato, made with the Cadillac of all gelato machines, with training in Italy! It's not on the menu. Gotta ask for a taste.

Invite  your extended Rotary Family [aka spouses], friends or co-workers. This also is a great way to introduce them to our club and what makes LSRC so special! There simply isn't enough time at our weekly meetings to get to know one another better. SO, EACH ONE BRING ONE.

THE UKRAINIAN WAR AND ROTARY

It is a tragic and sad time for the people of Ukraine and the world.

Many of you may not have remembered and/or even known but we have very close Ukraine ties to RI CEO John Hewko through our District and the Rotary Club of Clarkson .  Our District assisted in planting the seed 30 years ago to help sponsor the 1st Kyiv Rotary Club in Ukraine.

Because of these past District connections Mr. Hewko is suggesting we all channel efforts to the RI  Disaster Response Fund until 30 April 2022. RI will  then put a report together about all the donations  from RC Kyiv co-sponsor Districts/Clubs. He sees it as a demonstration of Rotarians from different Districts, Clubs and Countries coming together again collaborating to help Ukraine.

Today, our thoughts are with our fellow Rotary members and others in Ukraine coping with these tragic events. Rotary International will do everything in its power to bring aid, support and peace to the region.

CLICK HERE to read more about R. I.'s efforts in Ukraine.

As one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, we have made peace the cornerstone of our global mission and I thank you all for your continued efforts to Serve to Change Lives.
