We no longer meet via ZOOM so you must come in person. Enjoy food, fellowship and FUN!
Just wanted to give you a heads-up about some upcoming Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club notes:
Tomorrow, Friday, October 28th, our meeting will be Halloween themed, and "yes", it will feature a costume contest, with a prize for the best costume. So, no excuses, you have plenty of time to put together a costume!
Sunday, October 30th, SAVE-THE-DATE, to kick back and have a little fun at a family-friendly Club Bonfire, hosted by Mike and Penny Murphy. Call Mike if you plan to attend and give him a count so that he can throw another shrimp on the barbie and make sure there are enough liquid refreshments to go around..
Friday, November 11th, is Veteran's Day, and we are looking for some ideas to make this our theme for the morning and honor Veterans. You saw jml's idea in the Bulletin - wear red, white, and blue or your military uniform. [I am not in charge. I just am your humble friendly neighborhood newsletter editor.] Send YOUR ideas to Connie Conklin, cccconk12@aol.com.
Have another wonderful week!
~Donna Gehringer

Spend a day with family. No family? Then let us rejoice with friends!
Bob Maxey Ford in Howell was presented with the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club Literacy Star Award on October 12, 2022. This company supports literacy in the community by providing books in the lobby for children to read as their parents shop for a vehicle. Rotarian, Luanne Bibbee, had the honor of presenting the award to Steve Pegelly, New Car Sales Manager and Jay Clayton, Sales Manager.
Our club's Rotary exchange student, Kate (Japan), has arrived and is being hosted by the wonderful Atsalakis family. We typically arrange for two-three host families during a student's exchange year to help broaden a student's experience and share the responsibility.
Unfortunately, her second host family we had in place has had to withdraw due to unexpected family concerns.
So here's where you can help. We are looking for a couple of additional host family candidates for her. They would have to live in the Pinckney school district. Ideally, we would like to see this move take place after Thanksgiving. And then possibly another family beginning in March thru June 2023.
So, who do you know in the Pinckney area who might have a spare bedroom? I believe if we put out lots of feelers and just make the ask, we can make this happen. But I need your help. Please consider how you can help or who you can ask. Kate is a delightful young lady and we want to make her short time with us as memorable as possible.
Also, if you and your family would like to have Kate join you for a special event or outing, I know she'd love that. Just let her, me or Courtney know.
Let's make this happen for this young lady! Thanks guys.

CELEBRATE WORLD POLIO ACTION DAY OCT. 24
In support of World Polio Day on October 24th, District 6380 is rolling out the PolioPlus Society to encourage and recognize Rotarians who help reach the finish line on Polio eradication. In recent months an unvaccinated man in New York was paralyzed, a child in Malawi contracted Polio, and poliovirus was detected in sewage in the UK. We know we can reach a Polio-free world, but only with unwavering continued effort.
Rotary donations to the Polio Fund continue to be matched 2-1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Rotary commits to raise $150 million to fight polio every year. Our District can help ramp up efforts through our new PolioPlus Society. You can join this society by donating $100 every year to the RI Polio Fund until polio is eradicated.
The PolioPlus Society was started in Oregon several years ago, and later taken up by districts in California. As of December 31st, 2021, they had 4,000 Society members donating $524,000 annually! We in District 6380 are joining the effort. By pledging $100 per year until polio is eradicated, you will be a member of D6380 PolioPlus Society and receive a Certificate, PolioPlus Society lapel pin, and End Polio Now wrist bracelet. Contact PolioPlus Chair, Anne Nauts at anne@annenauts.com, to enroll or to request a speaker at your club.
Our "Change for Polio" campaign is up to $260 in donations! Let's keep it going for another week for those who haven't had a chance to contribute. Bring in those jars and piggy banks of your loose change for a great Rotary cause!
At the Tailgate, you can expect an expansive silent auction full of sports tickets and memorabilia, fun trips and experiences, U of M and MSU decorations, fan gear, golf packages, dollar-for-dollar gift cards and more!
There's a buffet dinner of delicious tailgate food, a cash bar, various games and raffles and tons of fun things to do during the event. The party starts at Crystal Gardens at 5:30 pm, don't miss out! This year’s team captains are Bob Cernak for the Wolverines and George Moses for the Spartans. Bob was a tight end at the University of Michigan in the 80s and led the Wolverines to victory in the Tailgate last year. George is a Michigan State University alumnus and publisher ofThe Marketeer. He was the winning captain of the virtual Tailgate party in 2020.
