Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club (LSRC) is proud to announce its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of service, fellowship, and community engagement. This milestone was joyously celebrated over the weekend at a picnic hosted by Steve and Patty Gronow at their Howell residence, bringing together current and former members for a day of reflection and celebration.

Chartered on July 1, 2004, as a Centennial Rotary Club during Rotary International's 100th year, the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club has grown from its original 23 members to 70 as of August 2024. Over these two decades, the club has been a beacon of community service in Livingston County, earning the prestigious Presidential Rotary Club Citation every year since 2005, with the exception of 2020 due to the pandemic.

In 2005, LSRC established the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation, which has since donated over $1 million to nonprofit organizations and service providers, primarily within Livingston County. These contributions, along with more than 16,000 volunteer hours from club members, have significantly enhanced the quality of life for local residents.

LSRC's impact spans a broad range of service areas, with a focus on empowering youth, healing families in crisis, and supporting seniors. The club's community initiatives include organizing the annual Independence Day celebration in Brighton, co-sponsoring the Hungry Duck Run to raise awareness about hunger in partnership with Gleaners Community Food Bank, and hosting the popular Midnight in the Tropics (MITT) fundraising event. The MITT event not only brings the community together for a night of fun but also provides critical financial support to three local non-profit organizations each year.

Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club Celebrates Independence Day with a Full Day of Festivities

Yesterday, the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club hosted our Fourth of July events in downtown Brighton, turning the city's heart into a patriotic celebration hub. The day began in the early hours, with dedicated Rotary members arriving at 5:00 am to prepare for the annual Hungry Duck Run. Over 800 runners took part in this beloved tradition, racing through the streets with enthusiasm and determination.

Following the race, our Club organized various family-friendly activities that filled the downtown area with laughter and joy. Children competed in a lively limbo contest, showcasing their flexibility and balance. The bubble-blowing contest was a hit, with colorful bubbles floating through the air, delighting participants and spectators alike. Meanwhile, the jump rope contest saw kids showing off their impressive skills and stamina.

As the afternoon approached, anticipation built for the day's highlight: the annual Fourth of July parade. The streets of Brighton were lined with excited community members, all eager to join in the celebration. This year, the parade had a special touch as Mark Howell, the founder of Fund A Life, was honored as the 2024 Grand Marshal. Howell’s contributions to the community and his inspiring work made him a fitting choice for this prestigious role.

2024 Midnight in the Tropics Fundraiser: A Stellar Success

The Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club is thrilled to announce the overwhelming success of our 2024 Midnight in the Tropics fundraiser. This remarkable event, consistently a sell-out since 2014, once again brought the community together for a night of celebration and philanthropy.

From 2014 through 2023, the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation (LSRF) has proudly given back nearly $650,000 to non-profit organizations and service providers, with the majority of these funds remaining right here in Livingston County. This year, we are delighted to share that just under $200,000 was raised, benefiting three outstanding local non-profit organizations: Torch 180, Reaching Higher, and Livingston County Catholic Charities' Youth Substance Abuse Program.
